Via Santo Spirito is located in the heart of the Oltrarno district, one of the most authentic and charming areas of Florence. This street is renowned for its historic character and timeless appeal, offering a glimpse of a less touristy Renaissance Florence, yet rich in traditions and culture.
Along Via Santo Spirito stand elegant historic buildings, many dating back to the Renaissance, with austere, majestic façades that tell the story of noble families and Florentine artisans. The street has a peaceful atmosphere, with small artisan workshops, art galleries, and design boutiques offering unique, handmade products. Here you can feel a different air than in Florence’s tourist center—more genuine and tied to local traditions.
The Santo Spirito neighborhood is famous for its cultural vibrancy. Piazza Santo Spirito, at the end of the street, is a meeting point for residents and visitors thanks to its outdoor cafés, traditional restaurants, and neighborhood markets. The square is dominated by the imposing Basilica of Santo Spirito, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture designed by Filippo Brunelleschi.
The area around Via Santo Spirito is full of hidden gardens, such as the Torrigiani Garden, and secret courtyards that reveal Florence’s more intimate beauty. In addition, its proximity to the Ponte Vecchio, the Pitti Palace, and the Boboli Gardens makes this area ideal for those who want to experience Florence’s art and history every day.
In short, Via Santo Spirito and its neighborhood offer an authentic Florentine way of life, far from mass tourism yet close to everything that makes Florence a city unlike any other in the world.
