Location: Massino Visconti, Piedmont

This small municipality lies on the Piedmont shore of Lake Maggiore, in a hilly position overlooking the lake’s lush green banks. Peace and nature are the defining features of the town of Massino Visconti (above Lesa), located a few kilometers from the renowned town of Arona. An important tourist center, well connected to the main motorway routes, close to Malpensa Airport and 60 km from Milan, Arona stands on the Piedmont shore of Lake Maggiore. A town with a rich history, Arona was long in the hands of the wealthy and powerful Borromeo family: Saint Charles Borromeo was in fact born here, in the castle, in 1538. The town is home to many churches and squares, among which the Church of the Holy Martyrs and the Collegiate Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary are certainly worth remembering. The former houses the remains of the village’s patron saints and preserves, above the high altar, 15th-century frescoes of the Leonardesque school; the latter, the parish church, originally featured a Gothic style, which has gradually been lost due to countless renovations. Moving on to the medieval heart of the town, we discover Piazza del Popolo, with its old-world houses and the pier, where a small lighthouse stands, a favorite spot for tourists. However, Arona’s most important and fascinating monument is undoubtedly the colossal statue of Saint Charles Borromeo which, at about 35 meters in height, ranks second among the tallest statues in the world, surpassed only by the Statue of Liberty. Arona also offers various activities for visitors: a historic center full of shops and restaurants, a pleasant lakeside promenade for walks, and lidos and small beaches where you can spend warm summer days. In this wonderful historical and natural setting you can find homes for sale on Lake Maggiore.
