Torre Suda, a seaside resort in the municipality of Racale, overlooks the Ionian Sea in southwestern Salento. Its name comes from a 16th-century coastal tower built to defend the coast from Turkish incursions. A renowned summer tourist destination for its clear sea, characteristic natural bays, and lush Mediterranean vegetation lining the Ionian Salento coast, Torre Suda boasts a coastline with low cliffs and crystalline waters. Among the most famous beaches are Spiaggia delle Monache, a small rocky cove with turquoise waters ideal for snorkeling; Punta della Suina, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Salento with its fine sand and transparent sea; and Spiaggia di Mancaversa, a short drive away, with golden sand and shallow waters suitable for families. Nearby lies the Regional Natural Park of the Ugento Coast, a protected area ideal for hiking, birdwatching, and diving in pristine nature. The church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary Stella del Mare, located in front of the San Marco square, celebrates its feast on the first Sunday after Ferragosto with the traditional Cuccagna a mare in the "Canale t'urpe." During the summer, Torre Suda comes alive with numerous cultural events and festivals, including food festivals and patronal celebrations that highlight the flavors of the sea and local traditions.
