The quiet location and proximity to the nature of the Madonie Park make it ideal for both residential and tourist use. The Borgo Eras building in Collesano, recently renovated, dates back to the land reform period. The properties in Borgo Eras are subject to renovation constraints aimed at preserving the existing building volume, offering redevelopment opportunities within the context of the Madonie Park.
Borgo Eras is classified as Zone B1 by the General Regulatory Plan, indicating a fully built-up area designated for renovation. Collesano: A Historic and Natural Jewel in the Heart of the Madonie
Collesano is a charming village nestled in the lower Madonie, in Sicily, boasting a historical and cultural heritage of distinctly medieval origin. Its location is privileged: just 10 km from the crystal-clear waters of the sea and just as far from the evocative woods of Piano Zucchi and Piano Battaglia, the natural habitat of fallow deer and red deer.
History and Faith Around Every Corner
The oldest core of the town preserves the ruins of the Castle and the Church of Santa Maria La Vecchia, from which every Good Friday the moving “Cerca” (Way of the Cross) begins. This representation of the Passion of Christ, winding through the streets and main churches of the village, is officially recognized and included in the REIS (Register of the Intangible Heritage of Sicily). Spirituality is also expressed in the Minor Basilica of Saint Peter, the Mother Church, which houses the painting of the patron saint, Maria Most Holy of Miracles, celebrated with a heartfelt procession on 26 May. Along the Corso, one comes to the Church of Saint Dominic, adjoining the former Dominican convent now home to the Town Hall, and, further up, the Church of Santa Maria di Gesù, guardian of the Crucifix by Friar Umile of Petralia, carried in procession on 14 September.
Flavours, Traditions, and Inherited Passions
Beyond its religious rites, Collesano is renowned for its valuable artisan traditions, especially ceramics, evidence of an ancient and refined craft that shapes clay into true works of art. The village is also a destination for lovers of good food: from the typical Madonie provola, with its rich, intense flavour, to the local cassatina, a sweet delicacy awaiting PGI recognition.
The Legend of the Targa Florio and Unspoilt Nature
While tasting these delights, one cannot forget Collesano’s link to the Targa Florio, the world’s oldest motor race, whose historic circuit ran through these mountains. The town is embraced by majestic, generous nature, offering breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable sunsets, in a protective hold that reveals views that take your breath away.
