Location: Incisa Scapaccino, Piedmont
Il centro abitato di Incisa Scapaccino is made up of three hamlets; the oldest nucleus is Borgo Villa, located on the hill overlooking the valley, accessed through the 15th-century Valcalzara gate. The historic center of the village consists of buildings that arose close to the ancient castle as early as the 12th century, of which today some remains of the old walls and the tower survive. Incisa lies in the Monferrato area, famous for its vineyards and its much-appreciated wine production; it hosts numerous events linked to food and wine, and in July the reenactment is held of the conquest of the ancient castle by William IX, Marquess of Monferrato. In this way one can follow the history of the siege and at the same time enjoy the area’s food-and-wine delights. Highly renowned is the sanctuary of the Virgo Fidelis, patroness of the Carabinieri Corps, dedicated to a member of the Corps born in Incisa, the first Gold Medal for Military Valor of the Carabinieri. Incisa is located a few minutes from Nizza Monferrato and from Canelli; Asti and the Langhe can be reached easily. In short, it is an ideal place for those who love history, culture, and good refreshment.
