Location: Stresa, Piedmont
Stresa is undoubtedly one of the most famous towns on Lake Maggiore and one of the most visited tourist resorts in the whole of Piedmont. From here, boats depart to visit the beautiful Borromean Islands: it is impossible not to fall in love with the sumptuous palaces, rich in art and history, and the perfectly manicured gardens. But Stresa is not only the islands, it also has a beautiful old town centre animated by pretty bars, pastry shops (have you ever tasted the Margheritine di Stresa?) and typical restaurants. The municipality of Stresa also includes hilly and mountainous areas: first of all, Mottarone, a mountain about 1500 m above sea level that becomes a ski resort in winter and in summer offers beautiful trekking walks, but also adrenalin-pumping thrills with Alpyland, a rollercoaster with two-seater wagons overlooking the Borromean Gulf. The eastern side, on the other hand, hosts the Alpinia botanical garden, where many botanical species typical of the alpine and subalpine belt can be found.
