Ovada, a small town in Alto Monferrato, is the last city in Piedmont before Liguria. It can be reached by traveling the road of castles, in order the castles of Montaldeo, Mornese, and Lerma. In addition to its characteristic historic center, it is also known for its wine production and its Dolcetto, biscuits, farinata, and its pleasant surroundings. The first mentions of the town date back to the Roman era, but the earliest settlements may even date back to pre-Roman times. Over time, it has experienced various vicissitudes due to its strategic importance in feudal struggles, belonging first to the Marquises of Monferrato, then to the Genoese. It also became French property during the period between the 14th and 15th centuries, then returned to the Genoese. Situated between the cities of Alessandria and Genoa, Ovada also has the great advantage of being just 5 km from the highway exit and only half an hour from the Ligurian Riviera.
