High peaks crown Rumo, between the Noce basin and Val d’Ultimo, in South Tyrol. Rumo includes nine hamlets or villages, formerly called chapels. The hamlets lie on slopes at an altitude of around one thousand meters. The Rumo valley differs markedly from the rest of Val di Non: its partial isolation has in fact preserved its characteristic architectural style intact. There are various traces of past prosperity, such as buildings with imposing portals, often decorated with coats of arms and frescoes, and the devotional roadside shrines dating from the 1600s. Nature lovers find many opportunities here to relax and enjoy sport: from mushroom picking in autumn to ski-mountaineering trips in winter on the unspoiled Maddalene peaks; from walks to more demanding hikes, to cycling and MTB routes, including the “Rankipino” route, a 57 km cycle-and-pedestrian path that runs from Passo Palade to the outskirts of Val di Sole, passing natural beauties and characteristic villages of Val di Non, including Rumo.
