Location: Vignale Monferrato, Piedmont
Vignale Monferrato, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage territories, is a small village rich in history. It was a stronghold for Roman soldiers who controlled the road from Alessandria to Asti, and it was only towards the Middle Ages that the village of Vignale gained significance around the castle of the Marquises of Aleramic and took the name Vinealis due to its important wine production. In 1703, the town, along with all of Monferrato, came under the rule of the House of Savoy and followed its history until the unification of Italy. To admire is the Palazzo Callori, an imposing building constructed according to the canons of 18th-century patrician houses by the Callori family, one of the ancient noble families of Asti. In the lower part of Vignale, near the Porta Urbica, is the Church of the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows with the adjacent convent of the Servants of Mary. The town is close to the main highways and the municipalities of Casale Monferrato and Alessandria. Nearby is also the prestigious Golf Margara, which, with its two 18-hole championship courses, ranks among the top in the golfing circuits of Piedmont.
