Just 11 km south of Lake Iseo and at the foot of Monte Orfano lies the charming town of Rovato, surrounded by the idyllic hills of Franciacorta.
The first settlements in the village date back to the Gauls in the first millennium BC. The center of Rovato is a delightful historic town, with narrow streets, charming squares, and hidden corners full of character. Its central Corso Bonomelli is well-known for its boutiques and cafés, as are the elegant Piazza Cavour and the green area known as Spalti.
Rovato enjoys a prime strategic location: it lies along major railway lines connecting it to Brescia, Bergamo, Verona, Milan, and the lakeside towns of Lake Iseo. It is also a central junction for two major northern Italian highways, the A4 and the newer A35.
With around 20,000 residents, Rovato was granted city status in 2014 and, as a city, offers a wide range of services: supermarkets, boutiques, excellent restaurants and pastry shops, banks and a post office, a pharmacy, beauty salons, gyms, a swimming pool, tennis and sports courts, and top-quality schools of all levels.
The advantages of living in Rovato
Rovato is well served by convenient railway lines connecting it to major cities. Brescia is only 14 minutes away by train, Milan and Verona can be reached in under an hour, and Treviglio in just 30 minutes. Venice is about two hours and 15 minutes away.
Located in the Franciacorta region, famous for its vineyards, the local wine is of excellent quality and has earned the DOCG designation—the highest certification of authenticity by the Italian government.
Monte Orfano offers breathtaking views over all of Franciacorta. At the summit, you’ll find the famous 15th-century Convent of the Holy Annunciation.
Rovato is home to numerous historic churches: the Sanctuary of Santo Stefano, dating back to the 8th century, and the Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the 16th century. The stone bell tower of the latter, its fascinating interiors, intricate arches, and exquisite frescoes and artworks in both churches have all withstood the test of time.
The Park of Villa Cantù, with its peaceful cobbled paths, offers a magnificent view of the city and its red terracotta rooftops.
