Description
Across two levels and approximately 184 m² of living space, this maisonette apartment combines generous proportions with a remarkably calm and cohesive design.
As part of a comprehensive renovation, the apartment was completely reinterpreted and its interior carefully coordinated throughout. The materials follow a clear concept: natural woods, light surfaces, precise joinery and selected ceramic elements define the appearance. Continuous herringbone parquet by Faro forms the design foundation, lending the rooms warmth and a timeless sense of ease.
The upper floor is dedicated to shared living. The kitchen, dining and living areas form one open, connected space in which the individual zones flow seamlessly into one another. The newly designed Beckermann kitchen integrates discreetly into the architecture. Light fronts meet large-format wooden elements, while the centrally positioned island structures the room and creates a natural transition to the dining area. French hexagonal tiles by Winckelmans provide a deliberate contrast to the herringbone parquet and subtly define the kitchen area without interrupting the openness of the space.
Materials and colours have been deliberately kept restrained. Wood brings warmth to the clear design, while finely integrated lighting creates carefully considered accents and allows the architecture to breathe. The Alpin Ofen fireplace was also incorporated into the new design concept. Its minimalist language of form blends naturally into the living area and creates a calm counterpoint to the open kitchen.
Large glazed areas open the living space onto the garden. The adjoining patio extends the living area outdoors, while natural-stone walls and established planting give the exterior a pleasantly sheltered and private character.
The lower level forms the apartment’s private area. Five rooms are arranged along the spacious hallway, allowing for various uses as bedrooms, children’s rooms, guest rooms or offices. The herringbone parquet continues on this floor, uniting the individual rooms into a calm overall composition. The unusually generous circulation area itself becomes part of the living space, giving this level an openness that extends beyond its purely functional purpose. The rooms have direct access to the adjoining outdoor areas and benefit from abundant daylight and views of the greenery.
Particular care is evident in the design of the newly completed bathrooms. In the master bathroom, custom-made wooden joinery is combined with a Villeroy & Boch basin from the Artis collection, KWC fittings and a Schmidlin bathtub. The carefully coordinated material concept continues in the other wet rooms. Sanitary fixtures by Laufen, fittings by KWC and tiles by Sabag are combined with bespoke joinery and selected built-in elements. This creates distinctive spaces that nevertheless follow the same design language as the rest of the interior.
In addition to the main living areas, the apartment offers generous ancillary spaces that integrate naturally into everyday life. A private laundry room and a cellar are located directly within the apartment. The offering is complemented by a separate hobby room and two parking spaces in the underground garage.
Südstrasse is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood of Thalwil, characterised by little through traffic. Schools, shopping facilities and public transport are all easily accessible, as are Zurich and the other municipalities along the left shore of Lake Zurich. This secluded residential setting is therefore combined with a location offering convenient everyday connections.
The generosity of the original architecture forms the foundation of this apartment. Through its comprehensive redesign, it has become a home whose quality does not depend on individual design statements, but on the interplay of space, materials and craftsmanship. An interior deliberately characterised by restraint, leaving room for the people who live in it.

Location: Thalwil, Zurich
Thalwil is one of the established residential areas on the left shore of Lake Zurich, combining proximity to the city with surroundings shaped by the lake, the Zimmerberg’s green spaces and established residential neighbourhoods. Zurich is only around ten kilometres away and can be reached quickly by public transport or car. Thalwil railway station offers regular connections to Zurich as well as towards Zug and Lucerne.
Südstrasse is tucked away in a quiet residential neighbourhood above the village centre. The property is located in a traffic-calmed cul-de-sac surrounded by well-maintained homes and plenty of greenery. The low traffic volume creates a pleasant sense of privacy and makes the location particularly attractive for families.
Oeggisbüel School is only a few minutes’ walk away. Shops, a kindergarten and other everyday amenities are also within easy reach. Thalwil railway station is approximately one kilometre away, providing quick access to Zurich and the surrounding municipalities. At the same time, the proximity to the forest, lake and Zimmerberg’s local recreation areas offers a wide range of leisure and relaxation opportunities.
Thalwil itself has a versatile infrastructure with shops, restaurants, schools and a broad range of leisure activities. The lakeside promenade and various bathing facilities are just as much part of the townscape as the extensive woodland and walking paths above the municipality.
It is precisely the interplay of these different qualities that defines the location: excellent urban connections, convenient access to everyday amenities, yet a peaceful and green setting. Südstrasse therefore offers a place to live where proximity does not mean density, and seclusion does not mean isolation.
