The municipal area of Scuol, which was merged on January 1, 2015, covers more than 42,000 hectares, making it the largest municipality in Switzerland. The former villages of Guarda, Ardez, Ftan, Sent and Tarasp are now fractions of the merged municipality of Scuol. The former Scuol is the main town in the Lower Engadine and fulfills many functions for the entire region. A comprehensive infrastructure also makes Scuol a tourist center.
