A symbol of Torre del Mar is its lighthouse, which can be clearly seen from many points inland and obviously from the sea. A must see is the Casa Larios, a former sugar cane factory, a simple and functional building in regionalist style with Mudejar overtones, characteristic of the nineteenth century. Today it is the seat of the Mayor's Office and music conservatory. To emphasize the commercial center El Ingenio whose decoration recreates the factory, there are replicas of the machineries of the old sugar factories of the zone. At 3 km is Velez Malaga with its ancient Arab fortress, the remains of a mosque and numerous Christian temples from the fifteenth century, and civil buildings such as the Palace of the Marquises of Beniel.
