Today it is the seat of the Mayor's Office and music conservatory. To emphasize the commercial center El Ingenio whose decoration recreates the factory, there are replicas of the machineries of the old sugar factories of the zone. At 3 km is Velez Malaga with its ancient Arab fortress, the remains of a mosque and numerous Christian temples from the fifteenth century, and civil buildings such as the Palace of the Marquises of Beniel.
