Torrevieja is a coastal city and municipality in the south of the province of Alicante, within the Vega Baja region. It is situated in a site of high landscape and ecological value on the shores of the Mediterranean and next to the La Mata and Torrevieja Lagoons, one of the most important wetlands in the Valencian Community and one of the most significant salt mines in Europe. The municipality of Torrevieja borders Guardamar del Segura to the north, Orihuela to the south, and Los Montesinos, Rojales, and San Miguel de Salinas inland. It has 20 km of coastline: from La Mata Beach to Punta Prima, there are numerous rocky coves and wide beaches, 13 in total. Notable beaches include La Mata, Los Locos, El Cura, El Acequión, and Los Náufragos. The city offers a wide range of shopping opportunities. It has 2,500 shops of all kinds. There are numerous sports associations, sports facilities, numerous educational centers, a private hospital, a public hospital, hotel facilities, and shopping centers like "Las Habaneras." At the Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja, members are offered classes in sailing, rowing, etc. It is very well connected by air: 40km from El Altet Airport (Alicante) and 25km south of San Javier Airport (Murcia). By car: national road 332, Levante highway, Mediterranean highway, and A-37 highway. By train: various RENFE stations in Alicante, Elche, and Murcia. By public transport such as bus and by boat. Torrevieja has a large port for private yachts and tourist boats with cruise offers along the entire coast and Tabarca Island.
