A few kilometers from the Swiss border lies the beautiful town of Cannobio. The ancient village, with Roman origins, situated between the lake and mountains, has preserved its historical charm; a walk through the streets of the medieval historic center is a must, followed by a stop for an aperitif at one of the many bars along the lakeside. Cannobio's Lido is the most well-known on Lake Maggiore, which in this area has received the prestigious Blue Flag award from the Foundation for Environmental Education. A key feature of this beautiful beach is also the presence of wind, making it an ideal spot for sailing sports, a true paradise for kite-surf and windsurf enthusiasts. Just above Cannobio, from the characteristic villages of Gurro and Finero, numerous trekking trails start in the Cannobina Valley, the northern access point to the Val Grande National Park, the largest wilderness area in the Alps. The village is accessible via the State Road 34 that runs from Gravellona Toce (VB) to the State border with neighboring Switzerland or via hydrofoil and ferry lines that connect the village with other towns on the lake. From Cannobio, you can also take the Provincial Road 75 of the Cannobina Valley, which leads into the valley of the same name from where you can reach the Val Vigezzo, the famous Valley of Painters that captivates visitors with its picturesque landscapes.
