Praia do Vau is one of the most popular seaside resorts of the Algarve, just in front of the city of Portimão, the 2nd largest in the Algarve and the largest in the West, which has traditionally been a centre of shipbuilding, sardine fishing and fish processing. The nearby Praia da Rocha also offers a vast extension of pristine golden sand (1,5 Km), waters of crystalline purity that reflect a myriad of shades of blue, surrounded by an idyllic landscape, with the capricious rocks that give it its name. At the bottom, take a walk through the wide wooden paths that run along the sand. Alongside them you will find a range of bars and restaurants, and even a space reserved for beach sports, especially the place for the 12 teams that will play the simultaneous dispute of the Mundialito beach football and the second leg of the EBFL - European Beach Football League. At the top, all along the seaside avenue to the port of Portimão Marina, you will find a wide choice of accommodation, restaurants and bars, most with outdoor seating, discotheques and a Casino. You will be pleasantly surprised by the fabulous panoramic view of the coast, enjoyed from East from the fortress of Santa Catarina de Ribamar built in 1633 under the reign of D. Filipe III (D. Filipe IV of Spain), on the proposal of the Italian engineer Alexandre Massai to defend the bar of the Arade River and from West from the point of view of Três Castelos.
