Xátiva, a city rich in history and culture: inhabited since Iberian times, it's one of few Spanish cities to preserve its pre-Roman name. In Roman times, it was known for textiles, the Moors introduced the first paper making factory in Europe. Later it was the hometown of the notorious Borgia family and birthplace of its two Popes. Xátiva today: (pop. 28,000) is notable for its well-preserved, historic castle and city-centre and its lively atmosphere and nightlife. It proudly celebrates its rich heritage through a full calendar of local festivals, preserving an authentic Spanish culture, unlike many coastal towns overrun with tourists. As capital of its county, it provides to many surrounding towns which rely on Xativa for retail, banking and governmental requirements. Local features: Regional Hospital, Gran Theatre, International School, Shopping Center (H&M, Druni, Multicinemas), Leroy Merlin, Decathlon, JYSK, many groceries; Mercadona, Consum, Aldi, Lidl, Family Cash, Vidal, etc. Xátiva access and distances: Xátiva enjoys excellent access to Valencia and Alicante via the A-7 Freeway. Train Station: Xátiva Station has cercanias service to Valencia all day, (approx. 50-55 mins), as well as daily trains to Madrid, Barcelona, Marbella and the rest of Spain.
