It borders Barbate, a sister town, and the ancient city of Tarifa, being only 73 kilometers from Cádiz, the provincial capital, and 177 from Seville. The name of the town is due to the tuna fishing with almadraba, a traditional fishing art that was already used in Roman times. Although today the main business is tourism, there are still some fishermen who work at the beginning of summer, during the migration season of this species. Its main attraction is the huge 8-kilometer beach that has been spared from the attack of rampant urbanization that plagues the rest of Andalusia. However, between Zahara and Tarifa lies Atlanterra, one of the most exclusive luxury tourism areas in Cádiz.
