Villa Berlia dates back to the eighteenth century, when the estate, then known as Vigna il Berlia, was one of the prestigious country residences of Turin’s aristocracy. The complex was built in a particularly scenic location, on a broad plateau overlooking the city. The estate’s history is also intertwined with that of the House of Savoy: before the final decision was made, the Berlia plateau was in fact considered as one of the possible sites for the construction of the Basilica of Superga. During the nineteenth century, the estate was expanded and also became a summer retreat for the Royal Military Academy of Turin, hosting cadets and their equestrian training. Today, the complex still preserves traces of this important past, including its historic eighteenth-century chapel.
