The Plaza Fábrica de Tabacos is located in the cuatro Caminos area so called because it is where the old Tabacalera complex was located. The Council of Coruña rehabilitated the area by demolishing the old tobacco premises in 2006, to make way for new establishments for residential and commercial purposes. The area now has a developing hospitality market, with many local hotels, restaurants and bars catering for both business people and tourists.

The Plaza enjoys a convenient and central location (its proximity to the port of A Coruña is only a 15 minute walk away) and a wide range of important establishments such as banks and hospitals. Similarly, several government offices, including the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office (City Justice Palace), the Provincial Traffic Headquarters (Transport and Driver's License Office) and the Social Marine Institute (Marine Social Services) are located nearby.

Due to the numerous government offices and residential and commercial establishments, the square has a large underground car park located next to a small public park with garden and benches. The main square of the plaza consists of a large rectangular lawn crossed by stone paths, with some trees and shrubs, and a red brick pavement surrounding its perimeter. There are benches and bicycle racks next to the square. The cafes in front of the square offer outdoor seating and are frequented by parents who-while resting-can watch their children enjoy the square's playground.
