While cultural activity slows down during the winter, summer in Vitoria is packed with events. An endless array of activities that kick off in June and stretch throughout the entire summer season. Here are some of them:
Jazz and Azkena (late June and early July)
These are the two major festivals in the city. One brings the most established and classic rock stars of all time while blending them with new bands.
On the other hand, the Vitoria-Gasteiz Jazz Festival has focused for a few years now on new proposals on the scene.

Magialdia (September 14-20)
If summer in Vitoria starts with the two quintessential musical events, the season says goodbye from a more conventional stage. Magialdia puts the finishing touch from September 14 to 20.
Few outside this circle are even aware of the existence of what is considered one of the best magic festivals in Europe. Magialdia dresses up the city streets for a week: its stages range from shop windows to the Principal Theatre (currently undergoing renovation).
Fiestas de la Blanca (August 4-9)
The festivals of Vitoria are known as the Fiestas de La Blanca. From the txupinazo on August 4—where usually more than 30,000 people gather—to the ninth day, Vitoria is the festive capital of the north.

Beach day
Vitoria lacks a beach. However, the Basque capital is located about an hour from the Basque coast. Even the Cantabrian coast is not much further than an hour and a half away.
Thus, it is possible to spend a beach day in high-profile locations and even return to spend the night in Vitoria on the same day. Here are some of the most prestigious ones:
Sopelana (Biscay): Larrabazterra beach is known for its charm, surfer-vibe establishments, and is just one hour away from the Basque capital.
Zarautz (Gipuzkoa): it is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful towns in the Basque Country. Here we are not just talking about the beach itself, but about a magical environment, a step away from Getaria, where you can eat the best fish on the peninsula.
