The building is located at the corner of Porta San Pietro Street and Spilimbecco Street, in one of the most authentic and picturesque areas of the historic center of Ferrara. Just a few meters away, Luchino Visconti chose to shoot some scenes of the famous film "Obsession," a setting that still today conveys all the charm and atmosphere of the city of the past. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul was among the first in the city, built when the urban core of Ferrara developed around the Byzantine castrum that arose on the island between the two branches of the Po River — the Po di Volano and the Po di Primaro. At the time, the main religious center was the Basilica of San Giorgio outside the walls, to which the church was directly connected. Historical sources attest that already in 1010 there was a monastery next to the church, donated by Bishop Ingone and intended for the canons of the Cathedral of Ferrariola, the ancient name of Ferrara. These deep ties with the origins of the city give the building extraordinary historical and symbolic value, making it not only a precious architectural asset but also a rare testimony to the origins of Ferrara.
