Ort: Bassano In Teverina, Latium
CThere is a place of enchanting beauty, a village that spans history and cradles time through its narrow alleyways, the Clock Tower, ancient palaces, and the quiet of the villas that cover an area rich in nature and art: Bassano in Teverina has its own personality, its own refinement, its own distinctive fascination. In the Middle Ages, Bassano in Teverina became part of the possessions of Countess Matilda of Canossa, who donated it to Pope Gregory VII. In the following centuries the village experienced a period of prosperity, particularly in the seventeenth century, when institutions such as the Monte di Pietà and the Banco delle Civitelle were founded, a sign of a lively and well-organized community. The Clock Tower, a Renaissance structure incorporating an 11th-century Romanesque bell tower, rediscovered only in 1976 and now restored with great care. The Church of Santa Maria dei Lumi, a treasure chest of unique medieval frescoes, including a rare Crucifixion with a two-headed Christ, bears witness to an artistic heritage that is surprising for a small village... Today the village tells its story through its restaurants, dresses itself in color for Tuscia in Fiore, and is celebrated with events and festivals that draw people from all over Italy, and beyond.
