The city of Numana is located on the southern slopes of Mount Conero and is within the Regional Park of the same name (from the toponym "Komeros" which refers to the strawberry tree, a shrub that largely characterizes the local arboreal and floral heritage), in the part of the Riviera of the Marche Region that takes its name from its imposing presence. Mount Conero is the only rocky promontory on the Adriatic coast (between Trieste and Gargano, in Puglia), where nature is untouched and unspoiled, while being a witness to one of the rare examples of Mediterranean scrub in the national territory, with several typical mountain trails, but overlooking the sea, to be walked for excursions on foot, through which you can descend, not without effort, to the whitest beaches in the valley, an effort rewarded by the incomparable beauty and transparency of the crystal-clear waters that border it. From the gardens of Piazza Nova in the coastal town, you can enjoy a remarkable panorama of the entire coastline, as well as from the characteristic terrace of the Arch, while behind the city open cultivated fields and Mediterranean bush. For many years now, Numana has transformed from a humble fishing village into a very modern tourist center, while maintaining a good balance with the historic center and its artistic and cultural richness, with evidence of the Picene civilization preserved in a city museum called Antiquarium. The historic center is located on top of a cliff overlooking the sea and can be considered almost continuous with the town of Sirolo. It is also equipped with a marina, and its beautiful beach extends to the hamlet of Marcelli, towards Portorecanati and Loreto. Moreover, Numana, as an established tourist destination, already a summer residence of noble Roman families since the late nineteenth century, has been awarded for many years the well-known Blue Flag recognition for the quality of its waters and the surrounding natural context and is located a few kilometers from the regional capital Ancona and the regional airport "Raffaello Sanzio" of Falconara Marittima, thus being easily accessible from all its national and international destinations. It is said that in this seaside resort, Charlemagne left the so-called "Miraculous" Crucifix, coming from the Holy Land, mistakenly called the crucifix of "Sirolo," hence the popular saying "those who go to Loreto and do not go to Sirolo see the Mother and not the Son."
