Porto Valtravaglia lies on the Lombard shore of Lake Maggiore, 10 minutes from Luino. Here, the lake’s crystal-clear waters offer a beautiful panorama. Picturesque hamlets, the small harbour, ancient washhouses, little churches and historic buildings make it a fascinating destination. Porto Valtravaglia offers all essential services and is connected to Milan and nearby Switzerland by rail. Its harbour also provides all the connections needed to explore the beauties of Lake Maggiore. Nearby is Luino, with all its attractions and services. Luino is characterised by history and culture, with a particular affinity for literature. It is famous for its wonderful new lakeside promenade, which features two children’s play areas, a walkway suspended over the lake and a beach, “Le Serenelle”, recently certified as having excellent bathing-water quality. Another beach, a short distance from Luino, is located in the hamlet of Colmegna, renowned for its crystal-clear waters. The walk through the historic centre is beautiful, with its uphill lanes, Renaissance and Baroque palazzi, arcaded inner courtyards, craft workshops and shops. One of the main attractions is the Wednesday market, one of Luino’s major events: a genuine weekly fair with more than 350 stalls lining the town-centre streets and lakeside promenade. For sports enthusiasts, and for anyone who enjoys life on the water, there is the Alto Verbano Sailing Club. Not far from Luino, in Maccagno, lies the small Forcora ski resort.
