Renovated period gem just steps from the city center

Luino is the most important centre on the Lombardy shore of Lake Maggiore from an industrial, commercial and tourist perspective. It is an elegant lakeside town with an almost Mediterranean setting. Luino is steeped in history and culture, particularly literature, having given birth to many contemporary writers, poets and actors. It is famous for its beautiful lakeside promenade, lined with plane trees and harmonious historic buildings. The new promenade features two play areas, a walkway suspended over the lake and a beach, “Le Serenelle”, recently awarded excellent bathing-water quality certification. Another beach, a short distance from Luino, lies in the hamlet of Colmegna, renowned for its crystal-clear waters. The historic centre is ideal for a pleasant stroll, with uphill lanes, Renaissance and Baroque buildings, arcaded inner courtyards, artisan workshops and shops. One of Luino’s main attractions is its Wednesday market. It is a cosmopolitan, picturesque and colourful folk spectacle, held every week since 1541. Sports enthusiasts can visit the Alto Verbano Sailing Association, one of the oldest on Lake Maggiore, or rent a motorboat. There is also the extensive service operated by Lake Maggiore Navigation, which provides connections to the Borromean Islands and nearby Switzerland. Not far from Luino, in the municipality of Maccagno, lies the small Forcora ski resort (Forcora Ski). Luino enjoys a strategic position thanks to its proximity to Switzerland and its railway connections with Milan and the Canton of Ticino.
