Description

In a unique seafront location stands Masseria Cerra, a historic building set in unspoiled nature with panoramic views over the deep blue sea, and just a 5-minute walk from the remarkable town of Otranto. Surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, fragrant mallows, dyer’s chamomile and many native plants, this property offers rare tranquility and complete privacy. From the very entrance you feel you are reaching a hidden Mediterranean oasis. From the gate, the apartment can be reached by car or on foot in just a few minutes. The Masseria was built at the end of the 14th century by the Cerra family, Milanese entrepreneurs who settled in Otranto. Even today the property retains its authentic soul and elegantly conveys the charm of past centuries. Today the Masseria is divided into three independent residential units. The two on the ground floor are for sale with Engel & Volkers. This apartment, with local stone floors, combines historic character with a refined, timeless simplicity. The sea can be reached on foot along a path leading to Cala Pauline in under five minutes. Comprising a living area with a traditional kitchen and fireplace, the home offers a welcoming, atmospheric setting. From the air-conditioned living room, which also enjoys a pleasant sea view, a convenient staircase leads to an evocative mezzanine area, ideal as an additional sleeping space or multifunctional area. The kitchen, overlooking the private patio, is fully and functionally equipped and perfectly integrated into the living area. The property has two bedrooms: one featuring a star-vaulted ceiling, typical of Salento architecture, and the other enhanced by a loft, en-suite bathroom and a practical storage room. From every room there is access to the wonderful private patio, a true relaxation corner embellished by a magnificent tree that extends harmoniously over the outdoor area, providing pleasant natural shade. The patio also includes a barbecue area, outdoor shower and washbasin. Serving the outdoor area there is also an additional bathroom with shower and WC. An authentic, charming residence, ideal for those who wish to experience the beauty of Salento amid sea, tradition and privacy.

Location: Otranto, Apulia

The city of Otranto, located on the Adriatic coast, is a renowned international tourist destination thanks to the presence of accommodation facilities and tourist complexes developed from the late 1960s and designed by leading architects. Otranto lies at the extreme tip of the Salento peninsula and is the easternmost municipality in Italy: the headland of the same name, also called Punta Palascia, south of the town, is the easternmost geographic point of Italy. In Roman times Otranto was known as Hydruntum, named after the Hydrus stream in whose valley the city stands. During the Roman period, Otranto was one of the most important seafaring cities in Apulia. The importance of its port led it to assume the role of a bridge between East and West. Otranto was a Byzantine and Gothic center, then Norman, Swabian, Angevin and Aragonese. In 1480 the city was attacked by the Turks and, after 15 days of siege, they captured it, massacring the population (Battle of Otranto), including about 800 male prisoners who were beheaded for refusing to renounce the Christian faith: these are the Holy Martyrs of Otranto. The Castle of Otranto, which gave its name to the first Gothic novel in history, is closely connected to the city walls, with which it forms a single defensive system. The coastline of the municipality of Otranto is dotted with defensive towers built in the 16th century by Charles V to protect the area from Saracen attacks. The former bauxite quarry is an emerald-green pond, contrasting with the red rock faces and the surrounding landscape; it lies south of Otranto near the Bay of Orte. Otranto can be reached by air, landing in Brindisi, by train from Lecce station, and by road along the motorways and the SS16.
