Monforte d'Alba is one of Italy's most beautiful villages and certainly the king of the 11 municipalities where Barolo is produced and the core zone of Piedmont's Unesco heritage. Its name has ancient origins dating back to the year 1,000 when the castle was built supported by fortified walls called Mons Fortis.
