Corfinio – Where Italy was born, in the green heart of Abruzzo. Anciently known as Corfinium, in the 1st century BC it was the first capital of Italy, when the Italic peoples united against Rome, demanding citizenship. Here the name “Italy” was born, engraved on the coins of the time, a symbol of freedom and shared identity. Today Corfinio preserves the charm of a place outside time: cobbled lanes, stone houses and views over the valley create an atmosphere of serenity. Among its treasures stand out the Cathedral of San Pelino, a masterpiece of Abruzzese Romanesque (8th century), and the “Antonio De Nino” Archaeological Museum, which tells the story of life in the ancient Italic city.
