A farmhouse became a charming country-house

In the 1500s, Tuscan nobles built farmhouses to host workers with their families. The farmers had to cultivate lords’ land, take care of the cattle and carry out all the operations following the harvest. The properties usually consisted of a main house - where the nobleman used to overnight - and poor farm buildings, in addition to stables, farmyards and barns. Usually, the farmer's home was on the first floor, while on the ground floor there were stables and storehouses. Many other farmhouses were then built in the 1700s, because of the agrarian reforms wanted by the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
