The prestigious wine qualities cultivated in Tuscany Maremma

From the famous Morellino di Scansano to Bianco di Pitigliano and Ansonica dell’Argentario

If Italy is the leading wine producer in the world, Tuscany is one of the regions that contribute most to achieving the primacy.

Among the most famous Tuscan denominations (Chianti, Bolgheri) the Maremma Toscana DOC appellation is gaining ground. Born in 2011, this includes the whole territory of the province of Grosseto. In 2019, this appellation became the third-largest in the region. In fact, it registered 314 members. The Vermentino accounts for 28% of total production.

Indeed, Tuscany Maremma is the perfect land to host high-quality vineyards. Thanks to a hilly area, a warm and dry climate, as well as the proximity of the sea, its wines have a characteristic Mediterranean profile.

The main varieties cultivated in the province of Grosseto are: Sangiovese, Vermentino, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Trebbiano toscano, Syrah, Ciliegiolo, Cabernet franc, Petit verdot, Ansonica, Chardonnay, Alicante, Viogner, Pinot grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Alicante bouschet, Colorino and Pugnitello.
