Commercial space on Rua do Grilo, in the parish of Beato

Initially called São Bartolomeu do Beato, Beato is one of Lisbon’s oldest areas, having belonged to the now-extinct municipality of Olivais, known for its estates and manor houses, between 1864 and 1878. With a privileged riverside location, it is an extremely family-friendly and peaceful neighborhood. The magnificent Convent of Beato—one of the most important in the city’s heritage—survived the great 1755 earthquake and is now a tourist attraction and a source of pride for residents of this parish in eastern Lisbon, where we can also find the Palace of the Dukes of Lafões and the Convent of Santa Maria de Jesus. Benefiting from wide streets, public transport, and local commerce, Beato attracts those who wish to live there. In recent years, projects have been implemented to improve the local population’s quality of life and promote the neighborhood’s development, ensuring renewed urban planning and modernity.
