Campolide was once good farmland, with several country estates. Along the whole hillside there were olive groves, orchards, and vineyards. Today these hills “hide” a quiet, safe neighborhood, with houses mostly from the 1970s. Almost the entire area is made up of apartment buildings, but there is a very interesting zone (the Calçada dos Mestres neighborhood) overlooking the Águas Livres Aqueduct, where you can find semi-detached houses with yards. Although it is a calm neighborhood, all the traffic coming from the city center passes through here, heading either south or toward the Cascais line (and vice versa in the morning). And anyone taking that route will come across the Águas Livres Aqueduct, an emblematic and grand 18th-century work of Lisbon, a complex system for capturing and distributing water to the city. A must-see for anyone who does not know it. It is important to mention the presence of NOVA University Lisbon, which attracts young people to the area and has consequently helped develop local commerce and services.
