In the center and in the highest Lisbon zone, was built the Ajuda National Palace. A majestic palace, which was once a "Royal Shack", housing of the Royal Family after the 1755 earthquake which destroyed the city center. This Palace is a national monument, with reconstitution of the royal residence. Next to the royal palace, and overlooking the beautiful Calçada da Ajuda, there is the Botanical Garden, the oldest in Portugal. Here you can discover a tree with 400 years, and you can enjoy a magnificent view with the backdrop of Tagus river, the 25th of April Bridge and the Christ Monument . Then the whole district unfolds around in narrow and tilted streets. A tangle of streets which is worth come finding, an authentic labyrinth.
