This is a central, predominantly residential neighborhood with commerce and services. The houses retain their original architecture, most of them of good size, and there has also been investment in new developments. It is mainly home to families, in a neighborhood where traditional commerce is concentrated—furniture stores, cafés, restaurants—but which also reflects new trends, with offices, hotels, and premium services. It is a very interesting area to live in due to its central location, ease of access, public transport network, and the presence of social facilities such as hospitals, schools, and police.
Arroios has three recently refurbished and modernized markets: Mercado 31 de Janeiro, Mercado de Arroios, with new restaurants at the entrance, and Mercado do Forno do Tijolo, which houses shops with traditional trade, a CTT—Portugal Post office, the Clodomiro Alvarenga reading room, the Joaquim Campos Sports Complex, comprising the Arroios Swimming Pool, a multi-sport court and a playground, as well as the Market of Cultures— a multipurpose space that hosts cultural projects.
