The current parish of Estrela in Lisbon, is a small parish belonging to this beautiful city, possessing a dynamism and truly unavoidable cultural and religious diversity. Estrela aggregates the old parishes of Lapa, Prazeres and Santos-o-Velho, going from the riverside to the Basilica. It was exactly the Basilica da Estrela that gave its name to the parish and its surroundings, a convent built in honor of Nossa Senhora da Estrela, in 1572, where today we can find the Main Military Hospital. A recent study points out this area of the city as the second most exclusive in Lisbon, chosen as a place of residence by the upper-income families. This area has always been chosen by the most distinguished and wealthy families, and there are still several palaces that belonged to these families. Estrela is one of the most central areas of Lisbon, located in the heart of the city. It is in this area that is located in particular the Parliament and the S. Bento Palace, official residence of the Prime Minister.
