The town of Nebbiuno lies in the province of Novara, within the strip of Piedmontese land bordering Lake Maggiore. Situated in a hilly area rich in vegetation, this small town offers both peace and quiet and proximity to services and the main lakeside towns, first and foremost Arona. An important tourist center, well connected to the main motorways, close to Malpensa and 60 km from Milan, Arona stands on the Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore.
A town with a rich history, Arona was long ruled by the wealthy and powerful Borromeo family. Saint Charles Borromeo was in fact born here, in the castle, in 1538.
The town is home to numerous churches and squares, including the Church of the Holy Martyrs, with its 15th-century frescoes from the Leonardo school, and the Collegiate Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Moving on to the town’s medieval heart, we come to Piazza del Popolo, with its old-world houses and pier, crowned by a small lighthouse and beloved by tourists. However, Arona’s most important and fascinating monument is undoubtedly the Colossus of Saint Charles Borromeo. Standing approximately 35 metres tall, it ranks second among the tallest statues in the world, surpassed only by the Statue of Liberty.
Arona also offers tourists a variety of activities: a historic centre full of shops and restaurants, a beautiful lakeside promenade, and lidos and small beaches where visitors can spend warm summer days.
