Location: Porto Salvo, Lisbon
Porto Salvo originally consisted of a small settlement at the junction of the roads to Oeiras and Paço de Arcos, extending no farther than the site where its church stands today.
Its existence is recorded in the Middle Ages (1362), dominated by agricultural, livestock, and extractive activities, and it was then the second most important locality in the municipal district of Oeiras.
Its growth is due to the establishment of a hermitage on the hill of Caspolima (1530), dedicated to Our Lady of Porto Salvo, whose fervent devotion ultimately led to its current name, replacing the traditional toponym Caspolima, which fell out of use from the 18th century onward.
