On October 5th in Barcelona, Amazon introduced its delivery centre and explained how it will work during the morning session. This means that both Barcelona and the 26 surrounding towns will benefit from 'Primer Now' thanks to the operation of a warehouse consisting of 3800 square metres located in Rosselló Street. To make the activity effective, the world's most important 'marketplace' confirmed the collaboration of local suppliers such as Mercabarna, Pastoret de la Segarra, and Espinaler.
For its part, Amazon also announced the creation of a specialised centre for selling Catalan products. The company has outsourced its home delivery services to Ara Vinc and Seur. You can order lots of products from salami to locally grown lettuce, which are delivered promptly to their destination in a sustainable manner through green vehicles and electric bicycles as provided by the company.
Thus, Barcelona is now the sixth city in Europe to enjoy the exclusive superfast delivery services of Amazon. Before, only Berlin, Paris, Milan, Madrid and Munich could benefit from this service. In principle, the company has assured that there will be over 20,000 products available for delivery with various shipping options. Specifically, delivery is available for all orders over 19 € and for those who have a premium account.
However, the time when you can enjoy all the advantages of this service will actually be from October 2017. This is the month that the scheduled completion of the warehouse in El Prat de Llobregat will take place. This warehouse will be the largest in southern Europe. The project has cost more than 200 million euros and promises to be completed in record time. The number of people who will work once the company begins trading in Barcelona is not yet known, but it is estimated to be, in all probability, more than 150 operators who will be responsible for making sure everything works as it should.
The Barcelona-El Prat store will have unique products that cannot be found in any other Amazon store. There are 100 logistics centres from Amazon spread around the world, with 29 of them located in 7 European countries. However, the one in Barcelona will be the only centre that will be accessible by subway. This was one of the commitments that the company signed with the city of Barcelona, which is in line with the green and bio-diversity plan that the local administration has put together in recent years.
