Madrid's urban projects in 2017

Madrid is in the situation of unlocking many urban projects that, for one reason or another, were delayed in the past. In particular, the Consistorio led by Manuela Carmena, predicts that during 2017, several projects will begin and as a result, thousands of people in the capital will be employed. The Chamartín operation and the Edificio de España are some of the projects that have come to light in the last few months.

The Vicente Calderón project

It is expected that during the month of October, Madrid's Atlético can begin to play their matches in Wanda Metropolitano; a new stadium that has been built on the basis of La Peineta facilities. The grounds that house the Vicente Calderón will begin to be built later this year. In total, it covers an area of 147 000 square metres, which will accommodate 8-storey properties.

The Santiago Bernabéu remodeling project

One of the golden dreams of Florentino Pérez was to remodel the Santiago Bernabéu. However, it was not until 2016 when the project began. We will have to wait a little while longer to see this project starting (until the end of the current Real Madrid season), but the truth is that the project will be a reality soon. In addition to the modernisation of the stadium, a luxury hotel and shopping centre will also be built next to it.

The Canalejas Complex

The approval of the shopping centre, hotel and a housing complex in Canalejas as given by the Madrid City Council last year will lead to the construction of these projects during 2017. The total investment committed amounts to 285 million euros. The works will be carried out by the building company, Villar Mir.

Madrid Rio 2 shopping centre

Despite the fact that, at the beginning, the Madrid Río 2 Commercial Centre project was described by Manuela Carmena as total madness because it forced to cross the river to cross its facilities, However, after the remodeling completed in recent months, all the issues between private companies supporting construction and public administrations have been resolved. In particular, its 40 000 metres of land will be housed by more than 180 shops and 1500 parking spaces.

In short, these are the main projects that will be responsible for dynamising and giving life to Madrid in urban terms during 2017, although there are many smaller ones that should also be taken into account, including the Cuatro Caminos car parks.
