Recharging points for electric vehicles in Madrid

As Madrid has been facing pollution problems during the last few months and even years, it has made a strong commitment to promote the use of sustainable public transport that is most environmentally friendly. This has been, with complete certainty, the reason why it is currently possible to find a great variety of places to recharge electric vehicles throughout the city. Here we are going to talk about the most important recharging points and their main characteristics.

The recharging points for electric vehicles that can be found in Madrid are usually located outside the public roads with the aim of interfering as little as possible with pedestrians and the passing traffic. At the moment, in the streets of the capital, you can find a total of 24 places that offer electric vehicle recharging, although in the coming months, this number is expected to double or even treble. Undoubtedly, this is great news for all electric car owners and those who are most concerned about the high levels of pollution in the city.

The 24 recharging places that we have mentioned have an associated parking reservation, ie. it is necessary to pay a small fee in order to be able to charge the car battery. To give you an idea, they work in the same way as regulated parking spaces, although with some differences. For example, the maximum continuous charging time is 2 hours.

It is important to remember that these places are not normal car parks. In fact, they can not be used by vehicles other than electric ones. In addition, it must also be said that during the two hours that the vehicle is parked at one of these charging points, it must be solely for the purpose of recharging the battery, otherwise the owner will be fined. For its part, once the 2-hour charging time has passed, the driver must leave the place in order to let someone else use it.

To make the most of these recharging places for electric vehicles, it is necessary to have the contact details of any of the associated operators (IBIL or CIG). In case of any problems or incidence with the recharging service, it is your responsibility to contact them to resolve the issue.

The street with the most recharging points is Castellana Avenue. It has up to 4 points. The other places with even more recharging stations are: Chambería, Embajadores, los alrededores del Parque del Retiro, and Madrid Centro.
