This will be the new Bernabéu Stadium

The new Santiago Bernabéu stadium, one of the projects that Florentino Pérez has dedicated much effort to during his last two terms at Real Madrid, is closer to becoming reality. In fact, the city council will approve this project in less than two weeks' time. Within the next few months, work will begin. The renovation will cost approximately 400 million euros and will put the stadium in the elite of world football.

Following the problems stemming from the suspension of the previous renovation process in 2012 based on a ruling issued by Madrid's High Court of Justice, this time the project owners have decided to enhance the public spaces in and around the stadium. In addition, all those aspects that led to the suspension of the previous project have been cleaned up. Most of those issues related to the invasion of certain public areas.

At first, the new Santiago Bernabéu stadium will not have a shopping mall, even though Florentino Pérez wanted this. However, this is a fairly feasible option for the future since, as stated by the municipal council, "as long as the surrounding public areas don't get disturbed, there won't be a problem for the mall's construction."

In this sense, the project will consist of approximately 23,000 square metres of land, which will be derived from the demolition of La Esquina del Bernabéu mall (10,000 metres), the relocation of the offices Valdebebas (8,000 metres) and a third zone that is currently empty and unused (5,000 metres). In spite of all this, most of Esquina del Bernabéu is destined to become a public square.

It is also expected that the stadium's renovation project will also include a catering section. Restaurants and pubs will have space at the complex and they will operate throughout the year. In addition, they will be complemented by other businesses that will provide lots of activities for the whole family. Exact data has not yet been released, although it is expected to appear over the next few days.

For its part, Real Madrid will take advantage of its emblematic stadium's renovation to build a new museum. In fact, it is not only thinking of remodeling and expansion of the space, but it also wants to offer visitors an integral experience while touring the trophy rooms of the most prestigious team in the football history. To all this we should add the improvements in the enviornment that will be made as a result of the new building construction.
