What to do in Madrid in October?

October in Madrid is a clear indicator of the end of the summer, although we can still feel the last of September's heat passing us by. Autumn is fast invading the city, which strives to regain its usual frenetic pace. In addition to the ongoing activities throughout the year such as the wide range of theatres, cinemas, and museums, this October, Madrid will host some unique events to suit all tastes. Here are some of these offerings.

Fans of urban planning have the opportunity to enjoy Mes de la Arquitectura (the Month of Architecture in Madrid), with a wide variety of exhibitions, seminars and guided visits to the most interesting buildings in the capital. Three different events will be brought together including Architecture Week with New York as the guest city, the Open House for the first two days of October and Madrid Otra between 21st-23rd October.

The artistic and cultural scene presents us with two exhibitions in which the visual appearance significantly prevails. Until February 26th, 2017, the Palacio de Velázquez will host an exhibition from the sculptor Txomin Badiola as part of the current “Nueva escultura vasca” or "New Basque sculpture", while the Mapfre Foundation will offer a sample of the award-winning veteran American photographer's work, Bruce Davidson

Music always has its own space in Madrid as the city hosts the highly anticipated release of “The Hole Zero, la fiesta del año” at the Calderón Theatre. The combination of circus, comedy, music and cabaret, preceded by the success of "The Hole" and "The Hole 2", will run until October 30th. Electronic music will have its own "fieston" on Sundays, until October 9th, at Parque Enrique Tierno Galván. There will be music and food at a venue called, Brunch - In the Park. Another similar music and food mixture, although wine will also be offered, is the EnoFestival 2016, to be held on October 1st at the Goya Theatre. Wine tastings and wine discussions will alternate with a diverse musical lineup.

Gastronomy reclaims its role during October 20th-30th with Tapapiés, the VI Ruta Multicultural de la Tapa Música. The streets will be immersed in more than 110 international cuisines as well as tapas and other Spanish dishes. There will be 60 concerts held on the streets during those weekends.
