Located approximately 3 kilometers northwest of Torrevieja’s city center are the residential areas of La Siesta and El Chaparral. They are comprised of many developments which feature spacious villas, townhouses, and apartment blocks. Most of the rows of residences and holiday accommodations surround the town center where the main road, rotunda, and various commercial shops and restaurants are located.

LA SIESTA CLIMATE

La Siesta enjoys a Mediterranean climate with pleasant temperatures and sunny days. Its seaside location helps to moderate temperatures during the peak of summer and winter. During the summer months of June – August, daily temperatures can reach 26°C, but even hot summer evenings are pleasant due to the cool air. The cold months are December – February; January being the coldest, with average minimum daily temperatures dropping to 11°C (during the late evenings and early mornings). These colder temperatures are evenly balanced with many sunny days giving La Siesta a pleasant winter climate.

The town also experiences a healthy microclimate thanks to the two large saltwater lakes in Torrevieja. The air that flows from the salt lakes is infused with natural salts and minerals, making it healthy and invigorating. In fact, the World Health Organization even labeled Torrevieja as one of the healthiest places in the world because of its microclimate.

CLOSEST BEACHES TO LA SIESTA AND EL CHAPARRAL

It’s worth noting that while La Siesta does not have any beaches of its own due to its inland location, the beaches of Torrevieja—most notably Playa La Mata and Playa de Los Locos—are quite near to the town, and can be reached in less than 5 minutes via car. In addition, the beaches of Orihuela Costa are also just a short drive away.

Playa La Mata

Playa La Mata or La Mata Beach is Torrevieja’s longest beach, spanning 2.3 kilometers in length, from Cabo Cervera all the way until the end of La Mata. The beach also has a long promenade that runs across its entire length and is where many restaurants and Chiringuitos (beach bars) are situated. This Blue Flag beach also features a pine forest and is surrounded by the La Mata Natural Park.

Because of La Mata Beach’s size, it offers plenty of parking even during peak season or summer months.

Playa de Los Locos

Playa de Los Locos features fine golden-sand shores, low waves, and a promenade with bars and restaurants. The beach layout is designed to offer access to people of limited mobility, including a ramp and lift situated near the cliffs leading to Cabo Cervera.

Although not as large as La Mata Beach, Playa de Los Locos still offers parking spaces, with some reserved especially for people of limited mobility. The streets to the back of the beach where a few restaurants and bars are located also offer additional parking spaces which are especially handy during the summer months.

La Casa de Xu

La Casa de Xu is an Asian fusion restaurant offering dishes from a variety of cuisines, including Chinese, Thai, Japanese and Indian. It also serves a variety of drinks, spirits, and cocktails, and is open until the late hours of the night. The restaurant is known for their Chinese buffet and Japanese Teppanyaki option where patrons can choose their meat and ingredients and watch their dish being cooked in front of them. An Italian restaurant known for serving big portions, Restaurante Campobello is a popular restaurant in the area, with guests advised to book in advance to avoid the wait. While there are a few bars within the vicinity of La Siesta and its nearby town El Chaparral, people staying at La Siesta can also conveniently enjoy the nightlife in Torrevieja’s town center. It takes less than 10 minutes to reach the city center via car, as the distance is a little over 3 kilometers. Taxi service from Torrevieja’s city center is quite complete with taxi cabs on standby even during the early hours of the morning. Fare costs around €9 – €11 one-way.
