PLAYA FLAMENCA

Playa Flamenca is a residential community of Orihuela Costa in Spain’s Southern Costa Blanca area. This beachfront resort is about 20 minutes south of Torrevieja, which is the nearest Mediterranean town. The popular urbanization of La Zenia borders it to the South and the inland Villamartin borders it on the West.

PLAYA FLAMENCA LIFESTYLE, BEACHES AND PROMENADE

Playa Flamenca is one of the most central and convenient residential areas of the Orihuela Costa. It enjoys quick access to Torrevieja centre, airports in Alicante and Murcia, a variety of beaches, and many nearby golf courses. It is a popular first home and second home for foreigners throughout Europe.

It’s home to four magnificent white sand beaches each with clean sparkling waters. Two of them, the Cala Mosca and Cala las Estacas (known as Playa Flamenca Beach), are Blue Flag accredited beaches. These crescent-shaped beaches, nestled within coves, offer swimmers a good degree of protection against currents and strong waves. The Playa Canina, also surrounded by a cove, is a dog friendly beach that is located right next to Cala Mosca.

A wide-paved and tiled promenade separates the two beaches. It’s dotted with Mexican fan palm trees, and has public seating areas and a children’s park. Bordering the promenade are local shops, bistros, cafes, and restaurants.

The fourth beach in Playa Flamenca, is the secluded, unspoiled, and pristine Cala Cabo Peñas, which can be reached only via a small hike. Unlike Cala Mosca and Cala las Estacas, it is not manned by a lifeguard.

PLAYA FLAMENCA ACTIVITIES

The Playa Flamenca beachfront is where you can hire a range of watersports equipment, especially scuba diving and snorkeling. You can experience guided dives around marine reserves, reefs, and wrecks from the beach-based establishments that also provide PADI Scuba Diving courses. You can also enjoy a boat trip to Tabarca Island or even a fishing trip from Cabo Roig, which is a 4 minutes’ drive away from Playa Flamenca.

Bike hires are a convenient way to explore the area and for the fit you can reach the lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja, where you can also indulge in a curative mud bath. The most impressive natural and historic walks are those around the Torrelamata nature reserve and the heritage buildings in nearby Orihuela city.

FACILITIES

You can access a wealth of amenities and quality services in this residential community throughout the year. Proximity to neighbouring La Zenia and the city of Torrevieja ensures easy accessibility to all the modern facilities required.

Playa Flamenca boasts a municipal sports complex with a full-sized football pitch, an indoor heated pool, tennis courts, and a gym. A police headquarters is just across the road from the beach.

The Scand Clinic Vårdcentral medical centre is located 400 metres from the Playa Flamenca Beach on Calle Pablo Picasso street. Centro De Salut, De Orihuela Costa public medical centre in Dehesa de Campoamor is 4.3 kilometers away, while the University Hospital of Torrevieja is 5.5 kilometers away.

Playa Flamenca has two Spanish state-schools within the community. They are IES Playa Flamenca and Escuela Infantil Planetarium. The El Limonar International School is located in nearby Villamartin and is 14 minutes away by car.

SHOPPING CENTRES AND MARKETS

You can buy provisions at the Carrefour, Lidl, or Mercadona supermarkets. The huge Zenia Boulevard shopping centre, which has over 200 shops, including supermarkets, boutiques, and leisure facilities, is easily accessible from Playa Flamenca. Via Park and Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre are the main locations for shops, restaurants, bars, hairdressers etc.

The community hosts a local market every Saturday on the Calle Pintor Ribera street that runs through Playa Flamenca.

You can buy everything from clothing and leather accessories such as shoes, purses, bags and belts to fresh produce, fruits and vegetables. Some stalls offer freshly cooked chickens, tortillas, and paellas.
