The Alameda Principal—commonly known as the Alameda—is one of the most important thoroughfares in the historic centre of Malaga (Spain). Historically, it has been a nerve centre for the city's urban and social development. The avenue is characterised by its mature grove of centuries-old ficus trees, which give it a unique and recognisable atmosphere. Along its length are historic and noble buildings from the 18th to 20th centuries, as well as emblematic monuments, such as that of the Marquis of Larios. The Alameda is a mixed-use space that combines promenades, shopping areas and restaurants, with pedestrianised sections and others shared by pedestrians and vehicles. In recent years, an urban renewal project has been promoted to improve accessibility, mobility and the urban environment. In terms of public transport, the Alameda is very close to the Málaga Centro Alameda train station, which connects to the Cercanías commuter train lines and offers a high frequency of trains. The extension of the metro line has further improved intermodality and access to the area. In addition, the avenue has several city bus stops, taxi ranks and on-demand transport service points. Sustainable mobility has also been enhanced: improvements have been made to the cycle lane and signage to fully integrate it into the city's cycle network. For drivers, there are several underground car parks in the vicinity.
