Family trip to the Badlands of Olopte

Natural tourism in Cerdanya

Badlands Olopte. Red eroded badlands with views of the mountains

The Cerdanya is a true paradise for lovers of nature and wild landscapes. One of the most fascinating in the region is the Badlands of All, a geological formation whose etymology, "badlands", does not do justice to the unique beauty of the place. Known locally as Esterregalls or Guilleteres, these formations are to be found near the small villages of All and Olopte, and they are another tourist attraction for visitors to the municipality of Isòvol.

Take a family excursion to the Badlands of Olopte, discovering unique geological formations in Cerdanya. Enjoy spectacular views and activities suitable for all ages.

Geological and historical origins of the Badlands

The Esterregalls are a rocky complex heavily eroded by the action of wind and water over millions of years. This formation represents one of the few landscapes of this type to be found in the whole of the Pyrenees. In addition to its geological interest, there are other explanations that intertwine myth and history. One of the local legends states that the romans exploited a mine of gold, a tradition that adds a touch of mystery and fascination to the place.

A stimulating family outing

In recent years, the Isòvol Town Council has invested in improving the accessibility of the Badlands by opening a large car park that allows any family to approach the Badlands in comfort in their own vehicle. In addition, safe paths and trails have been created, ensuring that everyone, including children, can enjoy the geological formations safely.

At the same time, visitors can learn more about the geological origins of the area, as well as discover historical and scenic curiosities related to the Badlands, thanks to the explanatory panels distributed along the trails. And, to round off any day, there's nothing better than to contemplate the breathtaking views of the valley that gives its name to the region, La Tosa d'Alp and the Cadí mountain range. Without a doubt, an ideal excursion to enjoy with the family and discover the charms of the natural tourism in the Cerdanya.
