Located approximately 3 kilometres northwest of Torrevieja's city centre are the residential areas of La Siesta and El Chaparral. These areas are comprised of many developments with spacious villas, town houses and flat blocks. Most of the residences and holiday accommodations surround the centre of town, where the main road to the town centre is located, the roundabout and various shops and restaurants.

Climate of La Siesta

La Siesta enjoys a mediterranean climate with pleasant temperatures and sunny days. Its location by the sea helps to moderate temperatures during the heat peaks of summer and winter. During the summer months, from June to August, daily temperatures can reach 26°C but even the warm nights are pleasantly cool thanks to the fresh air. The cold months are from December to February with January being the coldest month, with minimum temperatures dropping to 11°C. These colder temperatures are balanced by many sunny days, which gives La Siesta a very pleasant winter climate.

The city also experiences a healthy microclimate thanks to the two large salt water lakes in Torrevieja. The air flowing from these lakes is impregnated with natural salts and minerals, which makes it healthy and stimulating. In fact, the World Health Organisation even labelled Torrevieja as one of the healthiest places in the world due to its microclimate.

Nearest beaches of La Siesta and El Chaparral

Although La Siesta has no beaches of its own due to its inland location, the beaches of Torrevieja, such as La Mata Beach and Playa de Los Locos are quite close to the town and can be reached in less than 5 minutes by car. In addition, the beaches of the Orihuela Coast are also within easy driving distance.

La Mata Beach

La Mata Beach is the longest beach in Torrevieja, with a total length of 2.3 kilometres long, from Cabo Cervera to the end of La Mata. The beach also has a long promenade with many restaurants and beach bars. This beach with Blue Flag also boasts a pine forest and is surrounded by the La Mata Natural Park. In addition, due to the size of the beach, it offers plenty of parking, even during the high season or summer months.

Los Locos Beach

Los Locos Beach has fine golden sandy shores, low waves and a promenade with bars and restaurants. The beach is designed to provide access for people with limited mobility, including a ramp and a lift near the cliffs leading to Cabo Cervera. Although it is not as large as La Mata Beach, Los Locos Beach still offers parking spaces, some reserved for people with reduced mobility. The streets near the beach, where restaurants and bars are located, also have additional parking, especially useful in the summer months.

The House of Xu is an Asian fusion restaurant offering dishes from various cuisines, such as chinese, thai, japanese and indian. It also serves a variety of drinks, spirits and cocktails and is open late into the night.
