Sotogrande is the largest privately-owned development in Andalusia. It all began in 1962 when the American businessman Joseph McMicking purchased several farms on both sides of the Guadiario River, aiming to transform this area into one of Europe’s most prestigious addresses for residential and leisure purposes. Located in the province of Cadiz and the municipality of San Roque, Sotogrande is bordered by the towns of Guadiario and Torre Guadiaro, as well as two developments: La Alcaidesa and La Reserva.

Sotogrande spans 20 square kilometres, stretching from the Mediterranean Sea to the foothills of Sierra Almenara. It is situated just 25 kilometres northeast of Gibraltar and is home to several thousand permanent residents, a number that swells at least fivefold during the summer months.
