Elegant showcase in Porta Altinate

Borgo Altinate is one of the liveliest and most prestigious historic areas in the centre of Padua. It extends along Via Altinate of the same name, an important pedestrian thoroughfare linking the city’s medieval heart with the Portello district. It is considered the “good living room” of Padua’s residents, where commercial vitality blends with an exceptionally high concentration of architectural heritage: the Scrovegni Chapel and the Eremitani Civic Museums; Porta Altinate—one of the oldest gateways in the city walls (13th century); the Church of San Gaetano, a Baroque masterpiece designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi, renowned for its octagonal plan and interior decorations. The Altinate/San Gaetano Cultural Centre, located in the former Theatine convent, is now the city’s main exhibition and cultural hub, hosting exhibitions, libraries and event spaces. The entire area lies within a limited traffic zone (ZTL), encouraging shopping and strolling among historic palaces and elegant boutiques.
